I posted a few weeks ago about the “We Surround them” even that Glenn Beck was putting together.  It happened and it was a really neat thing.  Not so much what he did with all of the photos that were collected (a big collage) but what he is trying to promote.  He announced the start of the 9-12 Project.  My good friend Jeff organized a local meeting for the event.  It was really cool to see how many people came together to stand up for these 9 principles and 12 values.  That’s really what this is all about.  Glenn asked that we all meet on a regular basis to discuss the principles and values and  to talk about how we stand up for what we believe in.

Here are the 9 principles.  If you believe in 7 of them join with us and stand up.  Visit the 9-12 Project site.  Find people in your area that feel the same as you do.  We can and need to make a difference.

9 Principles

  1. America Is Good.
  2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
God “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the external rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” from George Washington’s first Inaugural address.
  3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington
  4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is known. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson
  5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson
  6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson
  7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington
  8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington
  9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson

12 Values

  • Honesty
  • Reverence
  • Hope
  • Thrift
  • Humility
  • Charity
  • Sincerity
  • Moderation
  • Hard Work
  • Courage
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Gratitude

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

So we had Christmas in Olympia with my parents this year.  It was fun.  We all had a good time.  The snow was pretty awful but we managed.  We pretty much just stayed home.  I already posted about Christmas Eve events so I won’t go in to that.  Christmas Day was really relaxing.  We let the kids open their presents first while we waited for Adam and Kelly to arrive from across town.  The kids had a good time.  Stuart got his beloved Rock’ Em Sock ‘Em Robots game.  Andy got a bunch of miscellaneous stuff.

Once Adam and Kelly showed up the adults opened theirs.  All of the boys got X-Ray glasses (from the comics) and switch-blade combs from my father.  They are fun.  Well the combs are anyway.  The glasses don’t live up to the hype.  I also got 2 new D&D books.  Martial Power and The Manual of the Planes, which I’m very excited about.  I also bought a 3rd book, the Draconomicon, with some Christmas money from my parents.  I know I’m a geek.

The rest of the day we spent lounging around reading and playing with stuff.  It was very relaxing and fun to spend the time with family.  The girls all went to see Twilight in the afternoon.  We also did some miniature painting since Jake got a bunch in his stocking.

We stayed in Olympia for a few more days and then headed home.  My Dad was coming with us and my Mom was going to follow the next day.  We got to North Bend and found that it was snowing hard in the pass and chains were required.  My Dad didn’t have chains so we decided it would be best for him to return to Olympia to be safe.  It all worked out for the best because we wouldn’t have had much time to spend in Pullman.  We also arrived in Pullman to find that the snow plow had piled the snow from the street across our driveway so we had to dig that out as well.

Then came New Years Eve.  It was a Wednesday so naturally we couldn’t cancel our usual D&D session so that is what we did.  We got a bunch of food.  My friends all came over and we played D&D till 12:30 or so.  It was a good time.  Kami went to her brother’s house and played Rock Band 2 and had a good time there as well.

All in all a very good holiday.  Plus I didn’t gain any weight.

Santa Claus came to town

Our 6 year old son worked out that Santa was a farse this year. I’m sure that he had some help from friends at school. He asked us point blank and we were honest and told him that he was not real. In hind sight I think we should have played it up a little more but it all worked out ok.

A man in our ward at church heard that he didn’t believe and offered to come over as Santa to change his mind.  The only problem was that we were planning to be in Olympia.  I called my parents to see if we might be able to hook up a similar thing.  It turns out that my new uncle Steve had a suit and was excited to participate.

So we get to Olympia and there is a ton of snow and the Christmas Eve party that Liz and Steve were coming down to attend was cancelled.  Luckily they called on Christmas Eve and said they still wanted to come down just for us.  We were so excited.

We had to rush to get the kids in to bed but we managed.  They parked down the street so that they wouldn’t give anything away.  Liz came in and got their stockings that we had already stuffed and took them out to Steve.  So he came in and gave a few Ho Ho Ho’s and went back to Andy and Stuart’s room.  They hadn’t been in bed very long so they were still awake.

He went in and told them that he had hard time finding them in Pullman so he figured that they were at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.  He told Stuart that he was surprised he could see him since he had heard that Stuart didn’t believe in him anymore.  Stuart told him that he did believe.  He gave the kids their stockings and told them Merry Christmas! and told them not to tell anyone.  It was so cool.

I am so glad that they could come down.  It was so much fun.  The kids were so excited.  They were up late talking.  Kami went in and talked to Stuart a little bit and he was convinced.  I can’t express how much fun it was.  We couldn’t have done it without Steve and Liz.

Merry Christmas!!
