Last week I finally upgraded my phone. I’ve been eyeballing several phones that have released since I got my first Android phone.  The specs for this one (Evo 3D) released early this year and I was pretty sure this was the phone for me.  1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM.  “Wow, that’s good.”  It has another spec that was intriguing but not critical.  It was a 3D phone.  I know what you’re thinking, “3D big deal.”  You’re right, I’m pretty tired of all the 3D movies that are coming out.  I’m not interested in paying a bunch more to see a movie in 3D.

Anyway, it turns out that the 3D capabilities of this phone are actually pretty cool.  It has a special glasses free 3D screen.  It also has dual 5MP cameras on the back.  I can take 720p 3D video and 1080p 2D video.  On top of that, it actually works.  I was pretty skeptical before I had seen it.  There had been some reviews that said it was pretty cool but I still wasn’t sure.  Unfortunately there’s no way to demonstrate it other than in person so anyone that wants to experience it will have to wait until there is one in their hand.

It came with a demo of Spiderman 3D and the Green Hornet movie in 3D.  I played the demo and it was cool.  I haven’t watched the movie yet.  I did buy a 3D car racing game that is pretty fun as well.

The best part about this phone is that it is awesome without the 3D part.  It’s fast and responsive.  The new HTC interface is pretty cool.  The only problem with it right now is that the bootloader is locked.  HTC claims they will unlock it soon.  I sure hope so.
